who are the people behind urbanhound?

lead hounds

Nina Munk is founder of urbanhound: the city dog's ultimate survival guide. She is also a Contributing Editor for Vanity Fair and a journalist whose work has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, Vanity Fair, Fortune and The New Yorker. Nina and her husband live in Manhattan with their children and their urban hound, Mack , a Brittany who is fond of city pigeons. Visit Nina's website at www.ninamunk.com.

Cheyne Munk Beys is urbanhound's director of marketing & business development. A veteran of online marketing, Cheyne left the industry in 2002 to earn a Master's degree at Columbia University before joining urbanhound. She lives with her husband in Manhattan, where, sadly, they lack the space for the big-pawed, sloppy kind of hound she covets. Cheyne also happens to be Nina Munk's sister.

Laura Cavaluzzo, urbanhound.com's editor-in-chief and San Francisco editor, is the former communications director of the San Francisco Dog Owners Group. A freelance writer whose work has appeared in The Bark, among other publications, she lives with her husband, Peter, and a Boxer named Jezebel. Anyone with advice on cleaning drool off Victorian baseboards is urged to contact her immediately. Laura holds a dual degree in English literature and journalism from Boston University.

Nadia Zonis, urbanhound's New York editor, has worked as an editor at SesameStreet.com, Good Housekeeping Online, and Ladies' Home Journal. A member of the inaugural class of the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, Nadia was until recently parent to Masha, a loveable and unruly Shepherd mutt who spent many happy hours tooling around Central Park. Full disclosure: Nadia has a cat named Cyrus.

Aaron Baar is urbanhound's Chicago editor and is proud to have once been a fixture at Wiggly Field dog park. (His dog has never forgiven him for moving further north.) A graduate of the Medill School of Journalism, Aaron has worked for United Press International, Adweek Magazine, and The Bond Buyer newspaper. His dog, Malone, a 7-year-old Shepherd-Lab mix, may be the only dog in Chicago named after a member of the Utah Jazz.

Elise Gelbard, a graduate of Rutgers University, joined urbanhound in 2005, starting as an intern and since proving herself to be an invaluable member of the marketing team. Elise's companion, a nine-pound Shih Tzu named Sebastian, spends his days snoring (and snacking) in the urbanhound offices, offering inspiration to the entire urbanhound team.

hound designers

Crescent Group designed and developed the urbanhound website. Based in Toronto, Canada, Crescent Group offers "advanced solutions for advancing companies". Integral to the development of urbanhound was Cedar, a mixed-breed puppy rescued by Geordie Allen, Crescent's chief executive and co-founder.

Leah Esposito designed the urbanhound logo. A graphic designer and art director, she founded her design firm, LED, in 1997.

Cyndi Shattuck designed and created the urbanhound media kit. She is a freelance photographer, art director, and graphic designer who recently left a 10-year career as an art director for newspapers to start her own company, Cyndi Shattuck Photography and Design.
